Resident Reviews of Rast Hall

For my first year at UAB, Rast Hall was not a good dorm to start in. Because of this I don’t think I ever want to stay in a dorm again. First there are the conditions. These are the oldest, ugliest, dirtiest, and smallest dorms compared to all the others inside and out. There were tiny roaches everywhere even prior to me moving in and even if there is one rinsed dish in the sink at least 10 roaches will try to make it a home. One day all of the dryers smelled of mildew and it was so bad the entire laundry room stunk. Idk if some nasty person washed a bunch of stinky clothes or the washers were bad that day but that was so disappointing. The smell of the dorms alone also really shows its age. Secondly, they don’t have good sizing. The rooms are tiny maybe not all but I haven’t seen any too much bigger than the size of a closet. Then the furniture in the room is too big for these tiny dorms there isn’t much space to keep belongings. I hate I paid $250 to live in a box. Third, is the location. Rast Hall is the farthest dorm away from most of campus. Everything seems so far away and no matter how fast you walk everything trip seems like forever. I wish i were closer to more campus involvement. Fourth, I think we have more room checks than anyone. They are always UNANNOUNCED and random. I understand dorms need to be checked but I’d at least expect certain announcements and PRIVACY. There have been many times where I’d have to hurry and cloth myself because I had NO clue the RA’s were coming into my space. Lastly, the RA’s. Some of the RA’s are sweet but the others are nonchalant, extra, non helpful, and careless just to name a few. I really wish I had a good experience with Rast Hall but honestly I’ve hated it here since I moved in. Nothing about the dorms makes me excited I would love to be placed in McMahon, Camp, or even Blazer, alone. I hope one day they fix these many many issues and if not i’m sure it will be shut down like the others. UAB has extremel
